  • Keuka Lake is the only lake in the country that flows both north and south. Because of the shallow waters, Keuka is one of the warmer Finger Lakes and is an ideal place for swimming and boating. It is unusual because it is Y-shaped, in contrast to the long and narrow shape of the other Finger Lakes. Because of its shape, it was referred to in the past as Crooked Lake. Keuka means `canoe landing` in the Iroquois language and `lake with an elbow` in the Seneca language. Located in the heart of central New York wine country, Keuka Lake lies 17 miles southwest of the City of Geneva. Shaped like a Y, Keuka ranks third in size among the Finger Lakes. The hamlet of Branchport is located at the tip of the lake`s northwest arm and the Village of Penn Yan tips the northeast arm. At the lake`s south end is the Village of Hammondsport.
