- Stari Most (Old Bridge) 16th-century Ottoman bridge in Mostar crossing the Neretva river. Commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1557 to replace an older wooden suspension bridge of dubious stability. The Old Bridge stood for 427 years, until it was destroyed on 1993 by Croat forces during the Croat–Bosniak War. It was rebuilt 2001-2004. The name Mostar itself means "bridge-keeper - Mostar
