  • It was built in 1578 by Gaspar Baez, which collapsed in the earthquake of 1582. Eight years later the Jesuit Diego Felipe began the second building of the temple, according to plans by Gaspar Baez. Later it was damaged by the earthquake of 1687, the restoration was completed in 1698. The 1868 earthquake brought down the tower, the new tower, made according to different design, was demolished in the earthquake of 1960. This set is made up of buildings constructed by the Jesuits for religious and living purposes. The plant is a Latin cross and has three naves deep side chapels, a transept and a dome on scallops. The temple and the facade, like the rest of colonial monuments of the city of Arequipa, are made of ashlar stone.
