- Adolph Sutro was an early land developer of San Francisco and silver baron of the Comstock Lode. He was also a mayor of San Francisco. The Sutro Bath at Lands End, the worlds largest indoor public swimming pools, was one of his projects. His personal home with views of the Golden Gate and on 18 acres of land had statues and gardens. All that is left of the whole thing today are these entry lions. The grounds are now part of the Golden Gate national Recreational Area.
