- Photo title: Beautiful stained glass window in the ancient St Mary`s Church Pevensey & Westham
- Author: Davidbexhill
- Cover photo description:
- The ancient Norman church of St Mary`s Westham dates back to 1080 AD. The main body of the church and its tower are built of flint stone. The original church was built by the Normans in 1080 after their invasion in 1066 and victory at the Battle of Hastings. It is said the Normans landed at Pevensey, however it is far more likely that they landed in the Brede Valley near Icklesham where there would have been a non-tidal safe harbour. In those far off days the whole coast was called Pevenisel.
