  • The cathedral was built in the years 1671-1713 in the Baroque style on the site of the temple destroyed by the earthquake in 1667, which, according to legend, the English king Ryszard Lwie Serce raised in thanksgiving for the miraculous rescue on the way back from the Crusade, when his ship crashed into the nearby island of Lokrum. `Velika Gospa` is the main temple of the Roman Catholic diocese of Dubrovnik in Croatia. The interior of the cathedral contains many valuable paintings including one original painting by Titian. There is also a rich treasury in the cathedral.
