  • Cover photo description:
  • Hoh Xil means `beautiful girl`, one of the main source areas of the Yangtze River. It is sandwiched between Tanggula Mountain and Kunlun Mountain. Most of the surrounding areas are ethnic minority areas. The West is adjacent to the Tibet Autonomous Region and the northwest corner is connected to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with an area of 83,000 square kilometers. The no man`s land in Hoh Xil is the third largest in the world and the largest no man`s land in China. It is also the last natural land that retains its original state where there are wild animals such as Tibetan antelopes and wild yaks. There are no barriers around, the terrain is high, and the average altitude is more than 5,000 meters. The climate is cold and there are strong winds all year round. The maximum wind speed can reach 20 m/s ~ 28 m/s. The annual average temperature is below -4 °C, and the coldest temperature can reach. Up to -40 degrees. Due to thin air, low air pressure, and thin oxygen, only half of the low altitude area, boiling water has a boiling point of only 80 degrees.
