  • Cover photo description:
  • Pictured is a stone relief titled `De Gloyende Oven`, which translates to `The Red Hot Oven`. It was part of a restoration project for eight worn 17th and 18th century stone plaques with biblical scenes. They were completely restored by restorer Wil Abels and installed on a blank white wall in the Begijnhof. The plaque depicts the story of The three Jewish boys, Sjadrak, Mesjak, and Abelnego, who refused to worship the golden statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had erected. For punishment they were thrown into a burning furnace. An angel, however, descended into the oven, extinguished the flames and led the three young men out.
