  • Cover photo description:
  • Bukovica is a karst region in southern Croatia, in the triangle between Benkovac, Obrovac and Knin. In the north it is bordered by the river Zrmanja, in the west by the Karinska more, and in the east and southeast of Krka. The southern border of Bukovica is partially crossed by the Zadar - Knin railway line, which is located on the southern side of the Ravni districts. In relief, it is a limestone plateau of 250 to 300 m above sea level, measured with small elevations JuriÅ¡inka - 674 m. It is assumed that Bukovica was named after the abundance of beech forests that had disappeared through grazing and farming. The surface area is small and the population is oriented mainly to livestock breeding, especially sheep farming and, to a lesser extent, farming. By vegetation and farming, this area is clearly distinct from the adjacent fertile Ravenna Kotars, where the Békés population was constantly evicted.
