  • Cover photo description:
  • Zrmanja is a river in northern Dalmatia. It is 69 km long, with an area of 554 km². It rises below the mountain PoÅ¡elj in the southern part of Lika, runs through Dalmatia at the foot of Velebit and it flows into the Novigrad Sea 12 kilometers from Obrovac. It is from Obrovac to the mouth, for smaller ships. It emerges from the Karst springs at the foot of the 200 m high mast at the village of Zrmanja Vrelo. In the upper stream it flows south, then turns west, south of Velebit, and receives its right, at the same time the largest tributary of Krupa. After that, Zrmanja creates several waterfalls: High Beech, Berber Beech, Deviec Beech, Sokolov Buk, Jankovic Beech. Downstream from Obrovac it extends and at the mouth of the Novigrad sea it is 300 m wide. Novigradska ždrilo, a narrow tank connecting Novigrad sea with open sea, is in fact the Zrmanja valley flooded with tectonic movements and turned into sea
