- Cover photo description:
- Bearded Iris variety Sugar Magnolia. Iris, a perennial plant grown from creeping rhizomes, is a genus of about 260–300, species of flowering plants with showy flowers. In the Iridaceae plant family, it gets its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris. The plant has tall, thick stems and sword-like narrow leaves. The `beard` is comprised of the yellow hairs on the lower petal. Three of the petals stand and the alternating three petals droop. A popular bouquet flower.
