In order to repay Xu Xian, a scholar, for saving his life, he turned into a human being to repay his gratitude. Later, he met a young snake, Xiaoqing, and they were together. Bai Suzhen used magic power and ingenious tricks to get acquainted with Xu Xian and marry him. After marriage, Buddhist monk Fahai of Jinshan Temple told Xu Xian that Bai Suzhen is a serpent demon. Xu Xian would be suspicious. Later, Xu Xian made Bai Suzhen drink realgar wine on Dragon Boat Festival according to Fahai`s method. Bai Suzhen showed her original shape, but frightened Xu Xian to death. Bai Suzhen went to heaven to steal the celestial grass Ganoderma lucidum and rescue Xu Xian. Fahai deceived Xu Xian to Jinshan Temple and placed him under house arrest. Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing fought with Fahai and flooded Jinshan Temple, but they harmed other living beings. Bai Suzhen was repressed under Leifeng Pagoda by Fahai after giving birth to a child because she violated the rules of heaven. Hou Bai Suzhen`s son grew up to be the first prize, went to the pagoda to sacrifice his mother, rescued her mother and reunited the whole family.
