- Cover photo description:
- Cladonia rangiferina, also known as reindeer lichen or grey reindeer lichen, is a light-colored, fruticose lichen belonging to the family Cladoniaceae. It grows in both hot and cold climates in well-drained, open environments. Other common names include reindeer moss, deer moss, and caribou moss, but these names may be misleading since it is not a moss. Reindeer lichen, like many lichens, is slow growing - 3–11 mm per year. Cortinarius caperatus, commonly known as the gypsy mushroom, is an edible mushroom of the genus Cortinarius found in northern regions of Europe. The fruit bodies appear in autumn in coniferous woods in Belarus as well as heathlands in late summer and autumn. The ochre-coloured cap is up to 10 cm 4 in across and has a fibrous surface. The clay-colored gills are attached to the stipe under the cap, and the stipe is whitish with a whitish ring. The flesh has a mild smell and flavor.
