- Cover photo description:
- Barclodiad and Gawres is located on the coast overlooking the bay, just 2 miles from the town of Aberffraw, Anglesey. This burial mound is known as ‘the giantess’ apron’; the story goes that a couple of giants were travelling to Anglesey to build a house, he carried two large stones for the door and she had an apron of smaller stones. On the way they met a shoemaker, they asked the man how far they were from Anglesey. The shoemaker was scared and lied, telling them that he had spent all the shoes on his shoulder coming from there. The giantess then dropped all of the stones in anguish where they were standing, due to the weariness from the travel, and the Cairn or tumulus of Barclodiad y Gawres was created.
