- Cover photo description:
- Belas Knap is a Neolithic monument dating to around 3800 BC. This type of elongated mound is known as a cotswold severn cairn, a monument style quite typical of this area of the North Cotswolds. These monuments are distributed along both sides of the River Severn with the highest concentration of burial mounds to be found in Gloucestershire. Belas Knap is an excellent example of this kind of monument, which has been extensively excavated – in 1863, 1865, 1928, 1929 and 1931 – although previous investigations were crude and poorly recorded.
