- The monument to Virgil The monument to the great Mantuan poet Virgil has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over time. The statue that can be admired in our day is in bronze, designed by Luca Beltrami in 1927, was made by the Milanese sculptor Emilio Quadrelli. The bronze statue currently admirable in Piazza Virgiliana is centrally located, where the 19th century Austrian amphitheater was demolished. On the sides of the bronze statue of Virgil there are two marble groups representing Heroic Poetry and Pastoral Poetry.
