- Photo title: The medieval Ponte Vecchio crosses over the Arno River in Florence, Italy.
- Author: Stuartan
- Cover photo description:
- The medieval Ponte Vecchio or Old Bridge is a stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge built in 1345 to replace an earlier bridge that was destroyed by the river flooding. It crosses the Arno River in Florence, Italy and today is famous for the jewellers, souvenir and art dealer shops along it. When this bridge was originally constructed, the shops were rented to various tradesmen but in 1442 the government let them all to the Guild of Butchers.
