  • Bystrica Castle is a ruin of a medieval castle on the right side of the river Vah, near Povazska Bystrica in Slovakia. Above all, it is considered an essential part of the silhouette of the Povazie and Horni Vah regions. It is built on a cliff 497 meters above sea level. It was one of the most important castles guarding the valley of the river Vah. At its peak, some 400 people were home to it. It is known as the eagle`s nest of the prominent Hungarian noble family of Podmanitzky. The exact year of the founding of the Bistrizza Castle is unknown, but it is assumed that it could be around 1128 AD
