  • History tells us about a man named, `Jauna Khan` who was a radical thinker, philosopher, lover of mathematics & science and above all an experimentalist. But his one great fallacy overshadowed all of his good deeds and that was his sense of hurry and impatience which resulted in his undoing, so much so, that we now remember him as Pagal Sultan. This `Pagal Sultan` was none other than Muhammad bin Tughluq and he is, in my humble opinion, one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted person to have set foot on this earth. It was during his rule that the famed traveler, Ibn Batuta visited India and he stayed in Delhi for several years on the insistence of the Sultan, who always showed magnanimity towards intellectuals & travelers alike. And it is from Ibn Batuta`s written memoirs that we get a close view about the rule of Muhammad bin Tughluq and location of many of the important monuments from that era.
