- Photo title: Georgia. Ruins of Khertvisi fortress 0131
- Author: Yarvegera
- Cover photo description:
- In the Middle Ages, one of the trade routes from China and other Asian countries to Europe passed along the Kura Valley. Dozens of fortresses were built along this path. The fortresses performed various functions: they monitored the safety of caravans, guarded convenient roads from raids by hostile peoples, and monitored the collection of duties. Unfortunately, most of these fortresses are now almost completely destroyed. Khertvisi fortress is one of the least destroyed.
