- Cover photo description:
- The hedgehog has pieces of sausage. The common hedgehog, or European hedgehog Latin: Erinaceus europaeus, is a species of mammal in the genus of Eurasian hedgehogs in the family urchinae. The hedgehog is considered a prickly forest dweller. However, very often hedgehogs can be seen near a person`s home. In search of food, they come out of their burrows late in the evening. As a permanent place of residence, hedgehogs dig themselves hidden burrows under the roots of trees or in bushes. During the day they sleep in their burrows, but after sunset they go hunting. Hedgehogs lead a solitary lifestyle and meet with their relatives only for procreation. The main feature of the hedgehog is its spines, which serve both for protection from predators – during danger, hedgehogs curl up in a ball, with solid spines on the outside, and for transporting various food supplies: hedgehogs prick mushrooms or apples on their needles to transfer them to their burrow. In winter, hedgehogs hibernate. To safely survive the winter, in the fall they begin to eat hard to accumulate the necessary fat supply. Hedgehogs often eat and normal human food that people leave them.
