- A picture of the Möhne Dam on a Summer Day. The German dam was attacked and damaged by the famous RAF Dambusters using Lancaster Bomber aircraft on the night of 16–17 May 1943. The sortie was part of Operation Chastise and used the famous Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb. The dam creates the the Moehne Reservoir, located 45 km east of Dortmund. It dams the rivers Möhne and Heve and provides hydro-electricity. n
