- Photo title: View from the ferry Bac Royan-Pointe du Grave, Royan, France
- Author: 2circles
- Cover photo description:
- Royan is one of the main French Atlantic coastal resort towns, located on the peninsula of Arvert, at the mouth of the Gironde estuary on its eastern shore. Royan was once of strategic importance, coveted in particular by the Visigoths and the Vikings. On the right you see the Église Notre-Dame de Royan, built between 1955 and 1958 by Guillaume Gillet in reinforced concrete. The chevet seems to bow as you look up - an effect accentuated by the 65m-high bell tower.
