- The Roan Antelope, Hippotragus equinus, was captured, in the vicinity of the Shingwedzi Camp, Kruger National Park, South Africa. It was taken on 30.08.19 One of the largest antelopes. Only Bongos and large male kudus can exceed them in weight. It is the namesale of the Cheveline Project whose name was taken from the French Antelope Chevaline. Males weigh between 242 - 33kg and females 223 - 280kg. They measure 190 - 240cm from head to base of tail. They are named for their roan colour reddish brown with lighter under bellies, white eyebrows, cheeks and black faces - lighter in females. The manes are short and erect, very light beards and prominent red nostrils. Hornes ringed and can reach a metre long in males, slighty shorter in females - arched slightly backwards. Prefer woodlandsand savanna, mainly tropical and sub-tropical savanna and shrubbed biome. Eats mid-length grasses. Forms harem groups up to 15 animals with a dominent male, fighting for dominence branching their horns, both animals on their knees
