  • The Pieve of San Giovanni Battista is a sacred building located in Ponte allo Spino, in the municipality of Sovicille, prov. of Siena. Mentioned since 1189, it is one of the most interesting Romanesque buildings in the Sienese area. The parish church has three naves divided by cruciform pillars and ended by apses. The last span of the central nave has a barrel vault that is set at a higher altitude, determining the presence of a lantern, externally decorated with hanging arches containing rhombuses and stepped rounds. On the façade, divided horizontally by a cornice, there is a portal and a large single lancet window. The capitals, very varied in the representations, are of high quality. The Lombard-style bell tower is open with mullioned windows and mullioned windows. Inside there is a table by Bartolomeo Neroni, known as il Riccio 16th century, with the Madonna and Child, angels, saints and a bishop.
