  • The remains of the ancient city of Hierapolis, when, as a health resort, around 190 BC. founded by King Eumenes II of Pergamum. Hierapolis fell under Roman rule in 129 BC. Later, the Romans, Anatolians, Greeks, Jews treated and enjoyed it, and it was an important center of the Christian faith. There are the Temples of Apollo and Pluto, the Gate of Domitius, then a large necropolis, the remains of a thermal bath, a Roman amphitheater, numerous early Christian buildings, the ruins of a Christian basilica from the 6th century, etc. In the complex of Roman baths with barrel vaults, which was once beautifully decorated and which included swimming pools with hot and cold water, steam baths, library, school, etc., today houses the Archaeological Museum, whose collection includes numerous sculptures, medical instruments, jewelery and other objects found in the territory of Hierapolis. The Roman amphitheater is well preserved and can accommodate more than 7,000 people. The tomb of Saint Philip, one of the 12 apostles of Christ, was found in the remains of a Christian basilica.
