- Cover photo description:
- Bishops Meadow is a lovely open space in the historic cathedral city of Hereford, England. Across the River Wye from the city centre, it was for centuries owned by the Bishops of Hereford, who allowed the citizens free use. During the 19th century, it was formally handed over to the people. There is a delightful walk beside the river, from which excellent views may be obtained of Hereford Cathedral. The walk is shaded by a magnificent collection of copper beeches. Access to Bishops Meadow is across the mediaeval Wye Bridge, or over the handsome suspension bridge known as Victoria Footbridge. There is a small statue of the dog who fell in the river, and was immortalised in one of Elgar`s `Nimrod Variations`.
