- The Uxmal Archaeological Complex is located south of the city of Merida and is one of the best restored and preserved Mayan remains in the Yucatan Peninsula. Uxmal was an important flourishing Mayan settlement between 700-1000 BC. Some of the most representative constructions of the archeological site are: the Leader`s Palace, the Magician`s Pyramid, the Administrative Palace, the platform used for sports competitions, the Bird House; House of Turtles; The Great Pyramid. Numerous Mayan inscriptions were found here, grouped on common platforms, also containing bas-reliefs with human figures.
