- Author: Wraight
- Cover photo description:
- The windmill overlooks the village of Woodchurch in Kent Uk. It is a fine example of a Kentish smock mill and was originally one of a pair of windmills standing on this site. Now almost completely restored to a working condition by local craftsmen and enthusiasts, the mill is a familliar local landmark which can be seen for many miles. One of the sails was badly damaged in 2019 from strong winds and as such are being restored. The first records of a windmill in Woodchurch are from 1660, The smock mill is a type of windmill that consists of a sloping, horizontally weather boarded, thatched, or shingled tower, usually with six or eight sides. It is topped with a roof or cap that rotates to bring the sails into the wind.
