  • Cover photo description:
  • Mole National Park is Ghana's largest wildlife protection area, and one of Ghana's most famous tourist destinations. It protects savanna environments on which live more than 90 species of mammals, including a big population of African elephants. The photo was taken when a group of male elephants entered a small pond to chill down during a hot day. In the afternoon, when the heat was reduced the elephants increased their activity playing with each other in the water. Here, the elephant on the left (black) has already taken a bath interacts with another elephant that had not previously taken a bath (grey). The grey elephant has its skin covered with mud. After this interaction the elephant on the right entered the water and bathed.
