- Photo title: Tailing Wheel, Jackson California
- Author: Adeliepenguin
- Cover photo description:
- One of four large wooden tailing wheels built in the early 1900's for the Kennedy (Gold) Mines in Jackson, California. These one-of-a kind creations were built to lift debris, or tailings, from the Kennedy Mine to an impound basin, to keep such debris from being dumped into rivers and streams. Historical landmarks, the wheels are an early attempt at protecting the environment in the Gold Country (Mother Lode Country) of California, where gold was discovered in the mid 1800's, initiating the Gold Rush.
