- Along the Mosel river in Germany in town Alken, the Thurant castle is situated. Thurant castle was built from 1198 to 1206 by Count Palatin Heinrich. From 1246 to 1248 it was besieged by the archbishops of Cologne and Trier. After the conquest the castle was divided in two parts, separated by a wall. Each part had its own keep and its own burgrave who managed the castle for his archbishop.
