- Photo title: Portrait of a grazing alpine gray cow
- Author: Tatappo
- Cover photo description:
- The gray alpine cow is undoubtedly one of the oldest inhabitants of the Alps. Raised for centuries by local populations especially in marginal and extreme contexts such as those of high altitude farms its presence is in fact documented since the 19th century, it is in able to adapt to the harsh environmental conditions of these mountainous regions. Until the early twentieth century, the isolation of the valleys made genetic exchanges very difficult and therefore the characteristics of the breed were able to remain almost unchanged.
