  • Photo title: Close-up image of an Ati Kukula bird (Greater Coucal)
  • Author: Sexploree
  • Cover photo description:
  • Throughout the island, it is a common breeding resident of home gardens, cultivations, scrublands, wet zone forest borders, and dry forest edges. It is a ground feeder, and its diet consists of nearly any small animal, such as snails, lizards, insects, frogs, small snakes, eggs, and nestlings of birds, among other things. It hunts alone or in groups. It appears to be a lifelong partnership, and when feeding, they maintain touch with each other using a call that sounds like hoop oop oop.... From February through September, and then again from October to December, is the breeding season. It lays two or three eggs in a domed nest hidden among prickly shrubs or the crown of a palm tree.
