  • Perhaps the most romantic place in Budapest is Vajdahunyad Castle. It is located opposite the Heroes` Square in Varoshliget Park and is a favorite place for both tourists and locals. You can get to the territory around the clock and at any time. During the celebration of the millennium of Hungary in 1896, a pavilion made of plywood, wood and papier-mâché was erected in the park where the celebration took place. It was a mixture of different architectural styles and included all the most famous buildings in Hungary. Since the architectural elements of the Hunyadi family nest in Transylvania were especially popular, the pavilion was called Vaidahunyad. After the celebrations, the building was dismantled, but people liked it so much that it was decided to erect it in the same place in stone. The construction of the castle was completed in 1908, and next to its walls there is a monument to the architect who designed it - Ignaz Alpar.
