  • In the 19th century, Padiham`s industry was based on coal-mining and Cotton weaving. Helm Mill on Factory Lane was the first mill built in 1807. By 1906 there were twenty cotton mills It was in this town that cotton thread was woven into fabric and distributed all over the world. These were the boom years. The town declined as these industries also declined. .There are no mills left in the town and no coal mines.
