  • In the north, the nature reserve borders on the Hondsbossche seawall, in the south on the Noordhollands Dune Reserve and in the west on the North Sea. On the east side of the area are the towns of Groet, Catrijp, Bregtdorp, Schoorl and Aagtdorp. The dune area is managed by Staatsbosbeheer. Around 1900 the sand still had free rein, until Staatsbosbeheer started planting. Now you can find heather, coniferous and deciduous forests. The area is bisected by walking and cycling paths. Several long-distance footpaths - the Dutch coastal path and the Groot-Frieslandpad - cross the area. The best-known dune is the Klimduin, which is 51 meters high and ends directly in the village of Schoorl.
