Cover photo info
- Photo title: Muscovy Duck Cairina moschata, 16.
- Author: Peachpappa
- Cover photo description:
- The large Muscovy duck with the distinctive red around the eyes, is native to the Americas. The males and females look very similar, with the males having a protruding caruncles along the base of the bill. Although the Muscovy Duck was known in the Americas before in Russia, where the capital Moscow, was originally referred to as Muscovy, it is suspected that the traders who first brought them to Europe, became known as the Muscovy Company, and the name stuck with the duck. As seen at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park, December 2021.
