- Hiroshima castle is famously called the Carp Castle. In the 1590s, the Hiroshima castle was built by the powerful feudal lord Mori Terumoto, and in 1931 the castle tower was designated as a national treasure in 1931. However, the tower fortress castle was destroyed on August 6, 1945 by the atomic bombing. The castle is the former residence of the Daimyo. In 1989, the castle was restored and as part of its 400th anniversary.
