- On Uig Beach stands this carved twice life size replica of a Isle of Lewis Chess piece, several more are around the Island. In 1831 Malcolm Macleod found 78 elaborately carved walrus ivory and whale teeth chess pieces, dating from the 12th century which may have been hidden for over 500 years, experts believe they were carved in Trondheim, Norway. Their design has appeared in Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone , and Noggin the Nog .
