  • Cover photo description:
  • The Suchiate river is a body of water that stretches all along the border between Guatemala and Mexico, in the southern part of both countries. Tecun Uman City is the border post on the Guatemalan side, while Hidalgo City is the border post on the Mexican side. They are connected by the Rodolfo Robles bridge, that passes over the river. But the connection doesn`t end there, since rafts known as “Camaras” cross the river from one side to the other, sometimes carrying people, others goods, in a continuous flow of everything, legal and illegal, that crosses the border. From illegal immigrants, to drugs, contraband, food, clothing and other kind of goods, make their way across the river, by use of the rafters on both sides of the river. This is also one of the places where the Migrant Caravans coming from Central and South America, cross into Mexico.
