Cover photo info
- Photo title: Lace lichen, Ramalina menziesii, 2.
- Author: Peachpappa
- Cover photo description:
- Often confused with Spanish moss, Lace lichen, Ramalina menziesii, is altogether different. Where as Lace lichen grows so easily throughout California, which is why it is the official lichen for the state of California, Spanish moss can not grow in California. Lichens are not plants but types of fungi, which simply need a host organism to thrive. In addition to being of benefit to the tree, they also provide hiding places to many animals. We are beginning to use them in our cosmetics and medicines. As seen along the Phil Arnold trail of Golden Gate Park 17 March 2022.
