  • Himeji castle is nicknamed White Heron” castle due in part to it white, beautiful, and elegant appearance. In 1333, Akamatsu constructs a fort. Then in 1346, Sadanori Akamatsu builds a full-scale castle in Himeyama, which is located on the top of a hill in Himeji, Japan. Years passed and Hideyoshi becomes Lord over Himeji castle. In 1580, he erects a three-story castle, which is completed in 1582. After many centuries, the castle is designated as a national treasure & x28;1931& x29; and a new national treasure & x28;1951& x29;. Five years later, the castle undergoes construction & x28;1956-1964& x29; and eventually is registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site& x28;1993& x29;. The castle underwent one more repair phase & x28;2009& x29; before opening its doors to the public & x28;2015& x29;.
