  • Cover photo description:
  • Aerial drone view of the hill known locally by three names: The Mayan Face, Indian Nose or Cristaline Hill. In the Tzutujil Mayan language, it is known as Rupala`j K`istalin. Its one of the highest places and viewpoints in the Lake Atitlan basin. Located in San Juan La Laguna, when viewed from places like San Pedro or San Lucas across its location, the mountain forms the face of a person with Mayan characteristics on it, facing up towards the sky. It has a height of 2,200 meters 1,367 miles above sea level, and from its peak, you can admire the complete shape of Lake Atitlan, the San Pedro, Toliman and Atitlan volcanoes, all of the towns surrounding the lake, and you can also admire the peak of the Acatenango and Fuego volcanoes. Local myths describe the mountain being modeled after the face of the local Mayan ancestors. This is a sacred place for locals, and Mayan ceremonies are still held up here. The view is amazing.
