  • It is 244 meters long. It was built between 1886 and 1894 and is a magnificent example of Victorian engineering. It represents one of the symbols of the British capital. Tower Bridge was designed by Horace Jones and Wolfe Barry. When Jones died in 1887, George Stevenson carried out the project which replaced the brick facade originally planned with the Gothic-Victorian style that is now admirable. The bridge crosses the Thames 9 meters from the surface of the water. It is supported by two neo-Gothic towers 65 meters (71 yards) high which, sinking for more than 7 meters into the river, delimit a pair of mobile bridges weighing 1000 tons in the center. Cornish granite and Portland stone with a steel frame were used for its construction.
