- Cover photo description:
- When I first came across this insect, I thought it was a giant bee that I should watch out for. After looking at the picture, it looked to me like a flying crayfish or lobster. When researching, I found out that it is in fact a clearwing hummingbird moth. Some people confuse these with hawk moths, sphinx moths, or even snowberry moths. This little guy was such a marvel the way he worked the flowers in this meadow. The flower he is at here is the bee balm flower. I love the way it looks like his tongue is coming out to gather the nectar. I love his pretty green fur, the way his antennas are straight up, and his legs hanging down from his body. This picture was taken in the East Coventry township nature preserve close to Pottstown in Pennsylvania.
