- Cover photo description:
- Sri Dalada Maligava is the Temple of the Tooth where the Buddha's left tooth is currently enshrined. The present Dalada Maliga is located in the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka. During the Upland Kingdom (1592 to 1815) it was located within the then royal palace complex. Sri Dalada Palace was first built by King Vimaladharmasuriya I (1592-1604).The Sri Dalada Palace built by him was destroyed by the Portuguese invaders. The old two-storied palace seen today was built by King Sri Weeraparakrama Narendrasingha (1707 - 1739). Even the Dravidian kings of the Nayakkar dynasty who came to rule later improved and protected the Sri Dalada Maliga. The city of Kandy itself, where the Dalada Palace is located, has been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
