- Cover photo description:
- Pirkstejn castle was founded by Henry of Lipe in the first half of the 14th century as part of the walls of the town of Rataje above Sazava. The main building of the castle became a multi-storey gothic palace with rounded corners and walls up to 2 meters thick. In 1627, the castle was heavily damaged. In 1712, Vaclav Oktavian Kinsky rebuilt castle into a rectory. The castle tower was changed to a belfry, part of the castle moat was filled in and the original drawbridge was replaced by a stone baroque building. The castle has preserved its appearance from the beginning of the 18th century to this day. The building belongs to the church and is not freely accessible to the public.
