  • Al Dhafra Festival is an annual event held each December near Madinat Zayed, south-west of Abu Dhabi. During the weeks-long event, more than 25,000 camels from all over the Middle East compete for 60 million Emirati dirham (~$16m) in prize money. Vast sums of money also change hands as particularly beautiful camels are sold. The biggest event is the Bairaq or best herd competition. The person with the best 50 camels wins one million dirhams and a Nissan patrol car.
