- Author: Peachpappa
- Cover photo description:
- Although San Francisco had prior Cathedrals, Old St Mary`s Cathedra was the first one built specifically to be a Cathedral. And, when it opened, for Christmas Midnight Mass in 1854, it was the tallest building in the whole state of California. Although the building survived the earthquake of 1906, there was extensive damage from the ensuing fire. Not only did the church bells met, so did the marble alter. Renovation took three years to complete. A new Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption was opened in 1971, this Old St Mary`s is still an active church. As seen 28 September 2022.
